Basalt fibers are used as reinforcing materials in epoxy and polyester resin composites. As a type of mineral fiber, basalt is considered physiologically harmless. Compared to glass fibers, basalt fibers exhibit superior physical properties, including higher strength and better resistance to temperature and chemical attack. In particular, they demonstrate excellent resistance to alkaline environments, making them especially suitable for reinforcing concrete structures. Plüss AG manufactures basalt fiber–reinforced products using epoxy resin as the matrix material and for high-voltage applications.
